Tarping Gets Rave Reviews
Everyont tried tarp tenting at Bear Paw Scout Camp on the weekend of April 18-20 and most Scouts and Scouters gave it an enthusiastic thumbs up. A steady rain on Friday night tested our tarping skills and while most setups held, some were found wanting. The key seems to be providing a suitable way for water to get off the tarp so it doesn't pool and cause sagging. These tarps are cheap, lightweight, flexible and we'll see more of them in the future.
Maps + Compass + Scouts = FUN
Scouts led our expeditions at Navarino (7 miles) and Bear Paw (10 miles and 4 miles) using topographic maps and compasses. As a troop we're getting pretty good at finding our way through hill and dale, field and fen. Many Scouts got 2nd and 1st Class map and compass requirements signed off during our recent
